Christmas at the Cathedral

About

Christmas at the Cathedral has become a Sydney tradition. It is an annual event which draws hundreds of thousands of families, children, community groups and tourists together to experience the lights and sounds of Christmas. For well over a decade, it has established itself as Sydney’s favourite free family Christmas event.
The event takes place each December at St Mary’s Cathedral and the adjoining Cathedral Square.
The event is for everyone, regardless of faith or cultural background, since the great Christmas message of peace and hope resonates across the community.
The aim of Christmas at the Cathedral is to highlight the true meaning of Christmas, the joy and good news of the birth of Jesus, through innovative and immersive ways. The pictures and illustrations projected on St Mary’s Cathedral draw the community together, to connect with the message of Christmas, and celebrate the season with their families and loved ones.
“Whatever challenges are in your heart, Christmas says: have hope, you are infinitely loved, be filled with joy.” – Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, 2020.
